This authentic, hand-painted, original Oil Painting from the 19th Century presents a dignified male portrait rendered against a dark, warm-brown ground. The sitter’s grey hair, lined face and formal dark coat with a white shirt and black tie are clearly visible and painted with careful, controlled strokes. Close inspection reveals fine craquelure and visible brushwork that give texture to the paint surface and a sense of age. As a one-of-a-kind original, this work would add historic character to a focused portrait collection. 19th Century.
